Future canon games
Just to make sure that everybody is aware. The essence of your future canon game should be exactly that. It must be a game that will change future gameplay (like DOOM) or will be incredibly popular - launching a range of sequels (like MYST, SIMS or Resident Evil).
Your argument must explain and demonstrate the clear difference between the game you choose and other games that have come before. SO, for example, my argument around Assassins Creed would centre on the introduction of free-running movement in a game. It would mention the use of maps in a non-contemporary environment to re-create the cityscape used in the game.
Games that already exist in many generations (eg Street fighter) and are already canon games are not really suitable to choose...unless the new version of the game has a new, radical approach, that will change how things are then done.
future canon game (changed)
I'd like to change the game that I will choose for my 2nd report - I'd like to choose Tales of Monkey Island as also one of the canon games in the future(i realized that Little Big Planet will be a complex game for me to tackle><).
Rise of Video Games
The video on "Rise of Video Games" have mentioned a lot of significant things about games such as, how the games had evolved, how games reflect the culture of our times, how some games like Pacman was created, and the concept of some games where you are given the ultimate power and have to decide what to do with it. Here are some of the other interesting things that have caught my attention from this video:
- Miyamoto, who created the Donkey Kong video game and designed the Super Mario Bros., was an artist and aspiring storyteller. He wants to recreate the feeling of fun and excitement he had as a child. I think that was also how others, in our present time, came to choose a profession - most of us wants to work where we'll have fun and love for what we do. Miyamoto wants to be an entertainer in some ways - and I think that has inspired him to go into creating and designing those video games that will entertain people in spite of his lack of programming experience.
- Generation gap - Games / Technology has created a gap between generations. Some parents (not all) in the past, had felt some kind of fear. They could not understand the new technologies that were emerging. They feel like they were left behind and were very much against it. Some also feel that these video games that were emerging were of no good to their children - so they prevent their children from playing these games (haha, sounds like my parents were one of those back then). But I think parents were now more open to these changes and innovations being made.
- Advantages of video games - Video games can be viewed not just as games. They are also a form of art, and an area for expression. Some people were against it for the violence it projects. But games has this virtual world where it is a safe place to express some of your feelings (like anger - in shooting games) and wherein your actions will have no consequences in real life - there is no consequence of truly hurting/shooting someone because you are in a real world - nobody's in there. Another important advantage of playing games is that games can make us feel closer to one another - the experience of playing games together brings out a sense of support and togetherness (even if there is competition).
- Disadvantages of games - Violence that results from playing video games usually happens when one becomes irresponsible and can no longer balance his life and separate the virtual world from the real world. Others had become so addicted to it, that that when they got to get back living in the reality - they get so depressed.
Future Canon Game Discuss
I decide to choose Dragon Age: Origins for my second report. RPG hooray!
history of video game
after we watched document movie aoubt history of video game, in just realize now, the game not just a game any more, it's about culture, history, business, even more. since 1958 the first video game in to the world, around 50 years later, the development of video game was very fast. the game from simple tennis game which just one button to control to now, we have different consoles, and use different controller to simulate different situations. by this movie, we know background story about game industry, how the canon game be created, how the player enjoy the game, how the game effect people's life. after we watch these movie, we saw the game histroy passed by time, the develop of different types of game, we can also imagine what's game will be like in the future, in thought it's the biggest goal in the movie.
Canon game in the future

future canon game
I would choose "Little Big Planet" as the game that I'm going to report because I think it will be one of the canon games in the future...
The World of Warcraft (for 10 days)
World of Warcraft is a very successful and popular multiplayer online role playing game. I've heard a lot about it from other people and have seen a lot of them playing this game back then. It was popular around the world. Yet, I've never tried to play this before. I've seen their cinematic years ago and I find it really interesting and intriguing.
This has been my first time to experience playing this game. (I'm not really good at games v.v)...
I named my character Febx, and have chosen it to be a warlock. I was able to reach only until Level 5 for the 10 days trial.
The initial stages of the game are all about gaining experience and improving your character. WOW was easy to learn, even for those who are inexperienced like me. To level up, you have to gain experience by accepting and completing quests. It will require you to take an adventure, develop your skills, loot from the corpses, buy and trade some stuffs. The game isn't depressive because it wasn't that hard to play and it's easy to get back to life/resurrect whenever you die (I got killed for about 3-4 times)..
The visuals and story were entertaining, but there comes at some point when I find the cycle of completing the quest a bit boring: asking for a quest - accomplishing the quest - going back from whom you have accepted the quest - then accepting another quest...and the cycle remains the same. A lot of these needs to be done in the early stages of the game in order to gain experience and level up.
I also encountered/have seen a lot of other characters (female warlocks), that looks exactly like my character - same suit, same hairstyle, same color, same face - but at least we have different names. Since millions of other players are playing this game, having same looks can't be prevented in spite of being able to customize your character.
Overall, i like the game for its story, visuals/graphics, theme, the characters and setting, the concepts, and the sound. Another interesting thing about this game is that you can interact with other players, some of which are doing weird stuffs like dancing and showing off. The theme and story they put on the game was very excellent, and there's really a big world in world of warcraft to discover.
The game i am going to write about in my report
